MOT

Testing 7 days a week
  • MOT tests can be carried out on your car up to one month prior to the expiry date of an existing UK MOT certificate.
  • On passing the MOT test, the vehicle will receive a certificate valid from the date of expiry of your existing MOT certificate.
  • All UK cars 3 years old and over require a valid MOT certificate by law. The contents and standards required are set by the Vehicle Inspectorate.
  • If you shop around you will find garages charging some very low prices for MOTs. Consider a garage charging only £35 for the test, they must look to make its profits from you in some other way!

Timing and Cam belts

Camshaft belts with any tensioners, rollers, etc., should always be replaced at manufacturers recommenced intervals, otherwise extensive damage can occur to the engine. If you are unsure as to when the manufacturers recommended change time is for your vehicle, we would be pleased to advise you.

Replacement at recommended times are essential to reduce risk of serious engine damage...

Engine Management Systems

We have some of the latest engine management equipment that will communicate with your vehicles Management systems enabling us to find faults in ABS, Air bag and Engine management systems.

With the introduction of Catalytic Converters, the fuel injection system came of age. Carburettors could no longer provide the degree of fuel control required by the new engine management systems. Every new car since 1993 (K Reg) has come equipped with fuel injection of one kind or another, controlled by a computer.

Some typical faults we see:

  • Peugeot 306s with Engine light on (possible wrong computer fitted when car built!)
  • Vauxhall Vectra Engine light on (Faulty crank angle/ Cam shaft sensor)
  • MoT failure on emissions (Failed Lambda or Oxygen sensor, possible failed Cat)

The above problems are generally out of reach of the DIY mechanic. We are now able to cover 90% of Asian vehicles.

Air Conditioning

More than 90% of new cars sold this year had air conditioning systems fitted as standard. If you are the owner of such a vehicle you will appreciate the value of air conditioning. The system cools the passenger cabin during warm weather and assists the demister in winter by removing excess moisture in damp conditions.

Whilst the modern automotive A/C & Climate Control system is both efficient and reliable, it is an Electronic mechanical system which requires periodical servicing and maintenance in order to maintain its performance. Almost without exception, vehicle manufacturers now recommend an annual service to maintain the efficiency of the system and ensure the reliable running of the vehicle.

A/C systems are still relatively new to the UK. Most car owners, and indeed, many other service centres, do not appreciate that if an A/C system is not correctly maintained by suitably trained and equipped technicians on a regular basis, there is a risk of system damage or even a complete vehicle breakdown. This is possible because most A/C equipped vehicles use a common drive belt to power the A/C compressor. If an A/C compressor seizes due to lack of maintenance, the subsequent drive belt failure will stop the vehicle. A/C has been rapidly standardised over the last 10 years due to the major enhancement it brings to passenger comfort. However, drivers are only just realising that A/C systems do require regular maintenance. Vehicle A/C systems will tend to lose refrigerant over time as refrigerant permeates through the physical joins between components. Over time this will cause deterioration in performance. Worse still, if you leave A/C operating with low refrigerant levels more serious problems can occur, lubricant circulation may be affected and air or moisture may enter the system.

We can advise you on all aspects of this important system in your car.

Catalytic Convertors

Catalytic converters are now fitted to all cars to remove harmful pollution from the exhaust gases. This expensive and high-tech component fits in the exhaust system and looks on the outside like a typical silencer box.

The catalytic converter is an integral part of the engine performance system and sensors control the gases entering and leaving the catalytic converter are controlled by the engine management system.

The catalytic converter effectiveness is measured by testing the exhaust gas emissions. This is an important part of the MOT and service requirements on all cars today.

The catalytic converter can be damaged if the engine is not properly tuned and excess fuel or oils enter the component. If your catalytic converter or exhaust does become defective and requires replacing, we can supply top quality replacement parts at significant saving to dealer prices.

Excellent tyre condition is of vital importance as they are only point of contact with the road. You cannot afford to neglect the condition of your tyres. Poor tyre quality could lead to endangering yourself and your passengers, as well as other road users and pedestrians.

Why should I check my tyres?
Illegal tyres will make your insurance invalid. Worn tyres significantly impede the performance of your car and fuel economy. Worn tyres reduce the effectiveness of braking, steering, and acceleration, vital areas for safe driving. Click here to view top tips for tyre safety.
